NFL Blitz, marked as unplayable does actually work in wine

Post by Bladeforce »

Hi,

I have NFL Blitz working in wine on linux without any special tinkering. Works flawlessly with nglide.
I understand the compatibility chart is for windows but just for others to know it works with wine (8.5)
I am currently making appimages out of 3dfx games so they will work (in theory) forever whether windows borks things or even nglide or any update. I am using gameimage from:

https://github.com/ruanformigoni/gameimage

I have now created over 600 appimages ALL confined to a single file incorporating the working windows files and the working game files (and iso automounts if needed) from the 1996 to 2005 era

Sorry to bother you but I have a little question about how to create 3dfx games. I am testing running 3dfx games on nglide however sometimes I get an image display error and it just shows a black screen for a few seconds. The sound still plays normally and there is no sign of interruption. Do you have any advice for this problem?

Try disabling features like V-Sync, Triple Buffering, or Hardware T&L (transition and lighting) in your GPU control panel to see if it makes a difference.

It's obvious that you've worked hard to keep these vintage games playable on contemporary platforms. Your work with AppImages is a really clever way to ensure the compatibility and longevity of these older 3DFX-based games, and it's great that you're utilizing Wine and nGlide to get NFL Blitz running flawlessly on Linux with little modification.
